Wim Kösters

Wim Kösters (born November 26, 1942 in Greven ) is a German economist .

Wim Kösters studied economics at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. As a postgraduate, he spent the 1968 academic year at Harvard University . After accepting a position at the Westphalian Wilhelms University, he was Professor of Monetary Theory and Theoretical Economics (Jean Monnet Chair) at the Ruhr University in Bochum until his retirement . He held the position of Dean of the Faculty from 1999 to 2001. In addition, he was Vice President of the Rhine-Westphalian Institute for Economic Research (RWI) in Essen.

In research and teaching, he devoted himself particularly to the formation of expectations and their significance for monetary theory and the economy. One of his best-known former employees was Ansgar Belke (1965–2020), who worked at DIW Berlin.

Kösters was one of the signatories of the Euro-critical manifesto The Monetary Policy Decisions of Maastricht: A Danger for Europe (1992).
