Hellwitch is an American thrash and death metal band from Fort Lauderdale , Florida that was formed in 1984.

history

The band was formed in October 1984 by guitarist and singer Patrick Ranieri and drummer Harry Tyler. They rehearsed a few pieces together in their apartment in Gainesville , Florida. This resulted in the first demo Nosferatu that same year . In February 1985, drummer Dave "Silverthrash" Silverstein joined the band, who replaced Tiyler, and bassist Andy Adcock. Her first live performance followed in July. In the following three years further appearances with bands like Corrosion of Conformity , GBH , Coroner , Dark Angel , Kreator , Deicide , Death , Morbid Angel , Atheist , Agnostic Front , Dirty Rotten Imbeciles , Anthrax and Nuclear Assault should follow.

The first studio demo , called Transgressive Sentience , was recorded in January 1986. A remixed version of the song Torture Chamber that was included on the demo appeared on the Thrash Metal Attack compilation released by New Renaissance Records in July 1987. The second studio demo called Mordirivial Disemanation appeared in June 1987. In July 1988, after a short break, an almost complete new line-up followed. In addition to singer and guitarist Ranieri, Frank Watkins occupied the bass and Steve Rincon the drums. In March 1989 they recorded a demo together that included three songs. On the demo was a cover version of the song Archangel , which was originally from Death . In the middle of 1989 there was another line-up change, with Jesse Trevino on bass and Joe "Witch" Schnessel on drums. In June the Swiss label Flight 19 Records (Switzerland) released a 7 ″ single that was extracted from the demo Mordirivial Disemanation . In August, bassist Trevino was replaced by Tommy Mouser.

In October 1989 the band reached a contract with Wild Rags Records . The debut album Syzygial Miscreancy was recorded in under the direction of Scott Burns at Morrisound Studios . The album was released in 1990. In the middle of the same year, Jim Nickles joined the band for the first time. The band toured the US East Coast and played at the Milwaukee Metal Fest . In February 1991 bassist Jesse Trevino rejoined the band and played on the Texas tour for the first time . That same year, Craig Shattuck replaced Nickles as the second guitarist.

In August 1991 the band returned to Morrisound Studios to record the EP Terraasymmetry , which was released on Lethal Records . Drummer Joe Schnessel left the band in mid-1992, returned briefly the following year, and then left the band for good. When bassist Trevino left the band, he was replaced by guitarist Shattuck. In early 1994 drummer Joel Suarez joined the band. The same year the demo Anthropophagi was recorded in pairs, with Ranieri taking over all the stringed instruments and vocals, and Suarez the drums. At the end of the year, JP Brown joined the band as the second guitarist. The following year Gabe Lewandowski became the new drummer. In 1996, the band reached a contract with Nazgul's Eyrie Productions , from which, however, no sound carrier emerged. In 1998, the band split up after a Halloween show with Deicide. In 2003, Progressive Arts Records released the compilation Final Approach , which included bonus recordings from demos, as well as test recordings from 1998.

The band held their first concert after the breakup at the Culture Club in Fort Lauderdale on July 24, 2004, which they held together with Malevolent Creation and Divine Empire . The cast consisted of singer and guitarist Ranieri, drummer Joe Schnessel and bassist Craig Shattuck.

In 2005 the band recorded the EP The Epitome of Disgrace . The cast consisted of Patrick Ranieri, guitarist JP Brown, bassist Craig Shattuck and drummer Joe Schnessel. In February 2006, the band thus reached a contract with Xtreem Music. In mid-2008, the band began recording their next album. The recordings should last for nine months. In spring 2009 the drummer Schnessel left the band. At the same time, the debut album was re-released via Displeased Records , along with all demos that were released before . The second album Omnipotent Convocation was released in August 2009 via Xtreem Music.

style

What is striking about all the pieces are the titles, whose names almost always consist of foreign words. In terms of sound, the works are described as a mixture of older albums by the bands Atheist and Death . The music is described as fast and complex.
