Eyelash marks

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The eyelash mark , also cilia mark (signe des cils) , is a clinical sign in neurology and neuroophthalmology that can occur in the context of various diseases.

The lashes sign is positive, albeit at maximum eyelid closure of the eyes nor lashes can be seen. This can be caused both by paralysis of the eyelid closing muscles and by damage to the facial nerves supplying the corresponding muscles . The eyelash mark is typical of mild peripheral or nuclear facial palsy . It can also be a sign of numerous muscle diseases such as facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy . As a symptom it is part of the so-called myopathic facies . The eyelash mark can also be positive in myasthenia gravis , a disease in which the formation of autoantibodies disrupts the transmission of the electrical impulse (the action potential ) from the nerve to the muscle.
