Robert Schwint

Robert Schwint (born January 11, 1928 in Montbéliard , Doubs department , † January 24, 2011 in Besançon , Doubs department) was a French politician of the Parti socialiste (PS) .

biography

Schwint, the son of a carpenter and a cleaning lady, became a teacher at the State School of Le Russey after graduating in 1952 , before later becoming the principal of this school.

He began his political career in 1959 when he was elected mayor of Le Russey for the first time as a candidate for the Parti Socialiste and held this post after re-elections in 1965 and 1971 to 1977. At the same time he became a member of the Senate in 1971, where he represented the interests of the Doubs department until 1988. He was also a member of the Doubs General Council for the canton of Besançon-Planoise between 1976 and 1982 .

In 1977 Schwint was elected mayor of Besançon for the first time as successor to Jean Minjoz and held this office after four re-elections until he was replaced by Jean-Louis Fousseret until 2001. At the same time, after leaving the Senate, he was a member of the National Assembly from 1988 to 1993 and was there representative of the interests of the first constituency of the Doubs department. In 1998 he left the PS.
