Winchester 75 was one of Marburg originating country rock band . In the early stages of its existence, it was considered an exception in Germany, as German bands, apart from a few, have hardly taken up this genre so far. After almost exclusively cover versions of well-known American models were on the program at the beginning , in the second phase of the band's history, their own compositions were increasingly played. Despite several attempts to include titles with German texts in the repertoire, the band remained English-speaking until they broke up.
Band history
As one of the first German country rock bands, Winchester 75 was able to attract some attention. Numerous concerts were given in Germany and Austria. In September 1978 followed a live appearance on Alfred Biolek's TV show " Kölner Treff ". In addition, the band took part several times in the then popular Marlboro Country & Western Festival. After Winchester 75 broke up at short notice in 1980, the band reformed some time later with a few new members, including the pedal steel guitarist Jo Steinebach , under the name Winchester . A total of one LP and one single with German lyrics were produced. Ten tracks were recorded for another LP, but never released. In 1982 Winchester was finally dissolved.
At the end of the 1990s, under the leadership of some former members, an attempt was made to reform, but this failed due to musical and internal differences.
