The Weißandt-Gölzau wind power plant is one of the most unusual wind power plants in Germany, because it uses a former reinforced concrete chimney as a tower.
This chimney , which was built in 1982 and closed again in 1989, originally had a height of 120 meters. For the construction of the wind turbine it was shortened to 68 meters in height in 1996 and then a tubular steel tower was placed on the stump. A wind turbine made by the manufacturer Enercon E-66 was mounted on this. The standard energy capacity is around 4 million kWh per year; the possible useful life of the tower is given as approx. 100 years.
The total height of the system is 135.6 meters.
