The windmill Gernrode is a Grade II listed windmill in the city of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt belonging to the district town of Gernrode .

location

Mill in August 1973

It is located northeast of the Gernröder town center on the east side of the street An der Mühle ( Mühlenstraße until December 31, 2011 ) and is listed as a mill in the local monument register.

Architecture and history

The tower Dutch windmill was built in the first quarter of the 19th century. According to other information, a windmill was built at this point as early as 1713 after the previously existing windmill on the Bückeberg was destroyed in a storm in 1713 and a new replacement was built at this new location. The last miller was David Schiele, who then moved to Burgstrasse 4 while the church was being renovated. A new owner then tried to convert the mill into residential use in the 1980s. However, the renovation was not completed. The currently (as of 2014) existing, futuristic-looking structure on the stump goes back to this construction project.

The windmill in need of renovation has a tower shaft made of rubble stones , which tapers slightly towards the top. In the tower shaft there are four arched windows and one door. The historical structure including the mill wings has not been preserved.
