General

The Windows Picture and Fax Viewer introduced in Windows XP has been revised in Windows Vista and renamed Windows Photo Gallery. Then Microsoft released the Windows Live Dashboard. It included the Windows Live Photo Gallery. This contained more functions. Then Microsoft released Windows 7. With it the Windows Photo Viewer, it couldn't edit pictures. Therefore, Windows Live Essentials 2009 including a new version of the Live Photo Gallery was released. Then Microsoft released Windows Live Essentials in 2012. This version contains more functions. The new features of the 2011 version include the introduction of the ribbon interface, as it is also used in the other Office 2010 products. With the program, photos can be easily edited and published on various Internet platforms. There is a choice of plug-ins. The program works non-destructively - the original photos are retained and, like the database behind the program, are saved by default in the respective user profile. Storage on other shares is possible. As one of the few non-professional image viewing programs, the program has a database in which “tags” (“keywords”) are also stored in the IPTC data. Markings already assigned for photos can be managed or changed. However, there is no way to write the markups and other metadata, such as ratings or geo-tags, back into a photo, which is why they are not available for other image editing programs. There is a plug-in for the allocation of geographic data.
