The Tarfaya wind farm in southern Morocco , 20 km south of the city of Tarfaya , went into operation on December 8, 2014. The wind farm extends over 8,900  hectares and has 131 wind turbines from Siemens Windenergie , each with an output of 2.3  megawatts (MW) and a rotor diameter of 101 meters, a total of 301.3 MW.

Construction began on December 24, 2012. Between June and December 2014, construction phases of 50 MW each were put into operation every month.

450 million euros were invested in the wind farm, which was financed by three Moroccan banks. The wind farm is refinanced through a 20-year electricity purchase agreement with the Moroccan Office National de l'Electricité et de l'Eau Potable (ONEE). Construction began in January 2013. The operator is the Tarfaya Energy Company (TAREC), in which the French GDF Suez and the Moroccan Nareva Holding each hold half . A standard energy capacity of 1000  gigawatt hours (GWh) per year is expected.

At the time of commissioning, Tarfaya was the largest wind farm in Africa, but will be surpassed by this once the Lake Turkana wind farm goes into operation .
