Wybelsumer Polder wind farm
The Wybelsumer Polder wind farm is located in the district of the same name in the west of the city of Emden in East Friesland on the north bank of the Ems . A total of 54 wind turbines are located on an area of 380 hectares . The wind farm owned by operator data with 70 megawatts once the largest built on land wind farms in Europe.
information
Since September 18, 2001, the companies Windpark Wybelsumer Polder GmbH & Co. KG, EWE Aktiengesellschaft , Stadtwerke Emden GmbH and Enercon GmbH have been operating the wind farm with 20 plants from Enercon; the systems are of the type E-66. There are also several Tacke wind energy systems, five Enercon-E-40 and four Enercon-E-112 wind energy systems, the latter with a nominal output of 4.5 MW each. In October 2006 an Enercon E-66 system burned down; in December 2007 it was replaced by a new E-82 from Enercon. Another system was dismantled at the beginning of 2008 and replaced by a new one. In 2010 an E-126 was erected in the neighboring Larrelter polder. Two permanent employees and two two-person Enercon service teams are responsible for the ongoing operation of the wind farm.

criticism
In 1997 a regional environmental group and in 1998 the NABU lodged a complaint with the EU Commission against the construction of the “Wybelsumer Polder” wind farm. In April 2003 the commission requested the Federal Republic of Germany to register the “Wybelsumer Polder” as a bird sanctuary and in 2004 closed the complaint procedure.
