Wing Han Tsang (2016)

Wing Han Tsang (詠 韓 曾, * 1960), better known as Wing , is a former singer from New Zealand . Growing up in Hong Kong, she emigrated with her family to New Zealand in the 1990s, where she initially worked as a nurse before working as a singer from 2001 to 2015. Due to her peculiar singing style, which brought her comparisons with Florence Foster Jenkins , she gained national and later international fame.

For the joy of singing , Wing performed for hospital patients and retirement home residents in and around Auckland . Her first album, Phantom of the Opera , developed from the suggestion that she should bring out a CD . In it she sang pieces from Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical The Phantom of the Opera . Further CDs followed with cover versions of well-known songs such as the Beatles or ABBA . With the release of Everyone Sings Christmas Carols with Wing , her music began selling internationally. Wing has been a guest on various television shows such as the Australian talk show Rove Live .

In June 2015, she announced on her website that she would no longer be active as a singer.

She achieved a high degree of fame through an episode named after her in the South Park series from March 2005 (episode 128, the third episode of season 9), in which excerpts from her songs were played.
