Shown are images of the first overflight of an aircraft over Mount Everest on April 3, 1933. Douglas Douglas-Hamilton , Lord Clydesdale, was the leader and chief pilot of the Houston Everest expedition .

In 1936 , the film won the Oscar for Best Short Film (Novelty) .

The film was a collaboration between the British offshoot Gaumont British by Gaumont and the US production company Skibo Productions . The production, which was originally 40 minutes long, was shown on July 19, 1935 in the USA in a 22-minute version.
