Stefan Winners
Stefan Winners (born February 17, 1967 in Essen ) is a German manager in the digital and technology industry.
Life
Stefan Winners was born on February 17th, 1967 in Essen-Kettwig. His father was a university professor for mathematics in Essen and he has two younger siblings.
After high school and military service, Stefan Winners studied business administration at the University of Passau and graduated in 1993 with a degree in business administration. From 1994 to 1998 he was department head at Heinze BauDatenbank GmbH in Celle, one of the first digital activities of the Bertelsmann Group . There, as a group junior, he also completed Bertelsmann's management training.
After holding positions at awk outdoor advertising as a division manager and Vogel Business Medien as a member of the management team, he moved to the Burda Group in June 2005 .
CEO of Tomorrow Focus AG
From June 2005 to September 2012, Winners was Chairman of the Board of Management / CEO of the listed Tomorrow Focus AG in Munich, the majority of which were held by Hubert Burda Media. Winners realigned the company by adding digital business models and selling other businesses. From October 2012 to December 2019, Winners was a board member at Hubert Burda Media in Munich for the National Digital Brands division. He was also Chairman of the Administrative Board and Managing Director of Burda Digital SE (formerly Burda Digital GmbH), which bundled Burda’s digital activities in German-speaking countries. There he was responsible for the listed companies HolidayCheck Group AG and New Work SE (formerly XING AG ), the majority of which Hubert Burda Media took over in January 2013. Winners had been chairman of the supervisory boards of both companies since 2013 . New Work SE tripled sales from 2013 to 2019 to EUR 270 million and earnings before taxes increased from EUR 15 million to EUR 52.1 million. The share price rose from 44 euros per share in January 2013 to 375 euros in June 2019.
Winners was also a member of the supervisory board of zooplus AG in Munich from May 2012 to June 2016. During this time, the company's sales increased from EUR 319.2 million to EUR 908.6 million and earnings before taxes rose from EUR -2.6 million in 2012 to EUR 17.9 million in 2016. The share price rose from 45.12 euros to 121.50 euros in the same period until Burda sold the last shares in zooplus AG in 2016.
In addition, Winners was responsible for the Burda Forward Group (including Focus.de , chip.de ), as well as ComputerUniverse, Cyberport , jameda and other businesses.
He has been on the board of directors for the central IT company Burda Digital Systems since 2012 and also responsible for human resources since 2017.
In the 2018 financial year, the Digital division generated sales of 1.47 billion euros with 4,500 employees, which made up 55% of Hubert Burda Media's total sales.
In September 2019, Burda announced that Winners would leave the company as a member of the board at the end of the year. For his part, Winners announced in March 2020 that he would be resigning as chairman of the supervisory board of HolidayCheck Group AG and New Work SE at the end of the respective annual general meeting and that he would be leaving in June 2020.

Winners has been a member of the advisory and supervisory boards of Giesecke und Devrient GmbH in Munich and other companies in Germany and the USA since 2014 .
Activity as an investor and private
Winners has been investing in digital, technology and green tech companies in Germany and the USA since 2011, for example as one of the first investors in Energy Vault Inc. in Pasadena, CA / Lugano Switzerland. He is an alumnus of Harvard Business School (AMP) and is a regular contributor to debates about the future of the digital society.
Winners supports u. a. various social projects, for example in the Cape Province in South Africa. He is married and lives in Munich with his wife Sabine and his daughter and son.
