Stefan Winners (born February 17, 1967 in Essen ) is a German manager in the digital and technology industry.

Life

Stefan Winners was born on February 17th, 1967 in Essen-Kettwig. His father was a university professor for mathematics in Essen and he has two younger siblings.

After high school and military service, Stefan Winners studied business administration at the University of Passau and graduated in 1993 with a degree in business administration. From 1994 to 1998 he was department head at Heinze BauDatenbank GmbH in Celle, one of the first digital activities of the Bertelsmann Group . There, as a group junior, he also completed Bertelsmann's management training.

After holding positions at awk outdoor advertising as a division manager and Vogel Business Medien as a member of the management team, he moved to the Burda Group in June 2005 .

From June 2005 to September 2012, Winners was Chairman of the Board of Management / CEO of the listed Tomorrow Focus AG in Munich, the majority of which were held by Hubert Burda Media. Winners was also a member of the supervisory board of zooplus AG in Munich from May 2012 to June 2016. The share price rose from 45.12 euros to 121.50 euros in the same period until Burda sold the last shares in zooplus AG in 2016.

In September 2019, Burda announced that Winners would leave the company as a member of the board at the end of the year. Winners has been investing in digital, technology and green tech companies in Germany and the USA since 2011, for example as one of the first investors in Energy Vault Inc. in Pasadena, CA / Lugano Switzerland. He is an alumnus of Harvard Business School (AMP) and is a regular contributor to debates about the future of the digital society.

Winners supports u. a. various social projects, for example in the Cape Province in South Africa. He is married and lives in Munich with his wife Sabine and his daughter and son.
