A swivel is an attachment means with an axially rotatable connection between two attachment elements in order to make the attached load rotatable.

In the simplest case, a vertebra consists of two metal rings and a joint. The metal eyelets are also called eyes , they are intended for hanging the load. In the case of heavy loads, snap hooks or other lifting accessories are used for hanging . Swivels can also be attached to snap hooks, shackles or pulleys. For heavy loads that should also be easy to turn with a loaded swivel, swivels with ball bearings are also used.

Also in the fishing be eddy used, especially on rotating at inflow indicators. A kind of carabiner with a swivel is also available for a keychain and a wind sock .

Two aerial acrobats can hang together using a double sling, the sling is either attached to the feet, hands or the neck. If a vortex is integrated, one person can turn in relation to the other, even with a pirouette- like spin.

Crane hooks typically have an integrated swivel with roller bearings in order to enable the hanging load to be easily twisted by hand and, on the other hand, to absorb a certain amount of twisting when the load changes in the case of a single rope.

A vortex in a dog leash enables the animal next to the owner to run in circles as often as desired without twisting the leash.

Unwinder is the use of a swirl (with multi-pole vias with slip rings) that prevents the telephone receiver line from being twisted if it is twisted repeatedly in one direction.
