Hoklo

Hoklo ( Hok-ló ), also: Holo ( Hō-ló ) denotes Chinese whose mother tongue is Hokkien , a dialect of Min Nan (Southern Min Chinese), which comes from the south of Fujian Province . The majority of Taiwanese are Hoklo; their mother tongue is called Taiwanese .

In a broader sense, "Hoklo" also refers to Chinese people who speak other Min-Nan dialects. They live mainly in Fujian , Guangdong, as well as on the islands of Hainan and Taiwan .

Ethnic group in Taiwan

Hoklo represent the largest group of Taiwanese with 70% of the population . The other large group are the Hakka with 14% of the population. Both groups are descendants of waves of immigration from the mainland in the 17th century ( Benshengren ).
