Wirl is a district of the Prezelle community in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district in Lower Saxony . It is located as an enclave in the community-free area Gartow in the immediate vicinity of the former German-German border at a height of 25 meters above sea level.

Settlement structure

The village consists of several former forest and customs service buildings.

history

The farm was a hunting estate that has been owned by the Counts of Bernstorff since 1694 . At that time it was the task of Andreas Gottlieb von Bernstorff , then Chancellor of the Hanoverian Elector, to secure the controversial border to the Brandenburg Altmark in the Gartower Forest . It was finally established in 1699 running about one kilometer south and east of Wirl. Today the Counts of Bernstorff in Wirl offer holiday apartments for riders and hunters.
