The Wirtschaftskundliche Bundesrealgymnasium Graz , also WIKU BRG Graz , is a Bundesrealgymnasium the 6th  Graz District Jakomini .

history

The school was named “III. Staatliche Oberschule für Mädchen ”- also known as the“ Maria-Theresien-Oberschule ”- was founded in Petersgasse 1.

In 1945, after World War II, the name was changed to “II. State high school for girls ”. Since the school building was destroyed by a bomb, the school classes were moved to another school or buildings. Initially with the Graz school sisters on Franz-Josefs-Kai, then in the BRG Keplerstraße .

In 1950 the school got the new name "Federal Women's High School", in 1953 it became the "Federal Women's High School".

In the meantime, a new school building was erected at Petersgasse 108, and the school moved in in 1959.

Due to the new school organization law of 1962, from 1963 only the lower level of the school is initially run as the "Wirtschaftskundliches Realgymnasium for girls", from 1970 also the upper level.

The school's new address has been Sandgasse 40 since 1978 and boys were accepted for the first time in 1980. In 1981 an extension begins, which is put into operation two years later.

In 1989 the school was renamed “Wirtschaftskundliches Realgymnasium”.

In 2018, the WIKU radio studio was opened in cooperation with Radio Igel.

On June 19, 2020, the music video for the in-house production “Relations” was published on the school's YouTube channel.

Focus and profile

According to the economic focus of the school, many subjects are oriented towards economics. In geography and economics there are a higher number of hours with initial practical opportunities to come into contact with business life and the world of work. As part of the WIKUrs course system, at least two business courses must be completed. One such course is project management, in which projects from the working and professional world are planned and carried out.

In the 6th grade, there is also a one-week factory tour to be completed. In the 7th grade, there is one hour of business mathematics in the subject of mathematics . There are practical opportunities for household economics and nutrition in the own teaching kitchen.

The upper level helps lower level project serves to compensate for performance deficits . There are binding behavioral agreements with parents and students.

Since the inception of the project Meistersinger , the students of WIKU-school choir successfully apply the cachet and thus give the WIKI since 2011 annually to award Meistersinger school.
