Religious life of the school sisters in Graz

The order was founded in 1843 under the name School Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis of Graz . The founder was Antonia Lampel (mother Franziska). She was supported by the Bishop of Seckau Roman Sebastian Zängerle . On December 1, 1929, the community was transformed into a congregation of papal law and on July 4, 1954, it was renamed the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception .

Through the education of children and young people (kindergartens, schools and day-care centers), pastoral and other services in the parishes, the Congregation strives to realize the motto of its founder: "Live in the midst of people in the pursuit of permanent unity with God." The community lives according to the rule of Regulated Third Order of Francis of Assisi . The congregation is divided into provinces and vicariates.

Motherhouse Graz-Eggenberg

school-building

The branch in Graz's 14th Eggenberg district is the parent company of the community and the seat of the Generalate .

The monastery complex was built in 1846 and expanded in 1960 according to the plans of the architect Karl Lebwohls . There are different types of schools in the convent's premises. The dining room in the inner courtyard, which was designed by Günther Domenig , with its organic roof construction, is particularly eye-catching.

The Church of the Immaculate Conception (School Sister Church) , built in 1896/97, is part of the complex .

In the monastery there is also the Franziskuskapelle, which is consecrated to St. Francis and was built in 1958 and 1959 according to the plans of Wilhelm Jonser .
