Witch's Stone

Witch's Stone

The approximately man- high Witch's Stone (also called Meikle Obney - German  "Hexenstein" ) stands near the end of Meikle Obney Road in the hamlet of Waterloo near Blairgowrie and Rattray in Perth and Kinross in Scotland .

The reason for the naming is unknown as there is no record of anyone in the area being convicted of witchcraft. Three people were accused of witchcraft in 1598 in Dunkeld , north of Waterloo, but were acquitted. However, two women were convicted in Perth that same year .

Other Witch's Stones can be found near Monzie at Crieff in Perth and Kinross and in the Craigs of Kyle in Ayrshire .
