Witchhammer is a Norwegian speed and thrash metal band from Sarpsborg that was founded in 1986.

history

The band was formed in the summer of 1984. After bassist Finn C. Gjerlaugsen had joined the band and the band had expanded into a quintet, the first appearance followed. Before that, singer Per Ståle Pettersen had also played bass. Other members in the band were the guitarists Tor Erik "Totto" Håkonsen and Peder Kjøs and drummer Jan Erik "Gokki" Eide. After the first demos were released, the debut album 1487 followed in 1990 . The album was created after a first demo was recorded in Borg Studios shortly after Christmas 1987. More recordings followed, so that the album was completed in 1988. After the recordings, tours with Artch and Tindrum followed . Meanwhile, cassettes of the album were sent to various labels. Peder Kjøs suddenly left the band in April 1989, a week before another tour with Artch. He was replaced by Frank Wilhelmsen. After this tour he left the band in October and was replaced by Morten Skute in November. After the debut album 1487 was released in March 1990, the album received largely positive feedback, including in Metal Hammer . A tour through Norway followed, as well as performances in Sweden . An appearance in Oslo was also broadcast live on TV. In the same year, another album should be recorded before Skute left the band in September and the band remained inactive for a long time. The album was only to be released in 2001 under the name The Lost Tapes via Dazed & Confused Records . After the debut album was re-released on this label in 2005, the album Chapter 3: In Serenity and Awe followed in 2011 .

style

The group's songs are described as a mix of speed metal and thrash metal from the San Francisco Bay Area . The band's music is comparable to old works by Helloween and Testament .
