Wittenham Clumps
The Wittenham Clumps are a group of hills in the village of Little Wittenham, northeast of Didcot in Oxfordshire .
The name describes two hills, the so-called 'Castle Hill' and the 'Round Hill' . The hills rise from the flat valley of the Thames . Archaeological excavations have shown that a fortification was built on 'Castle Hill' in the Bronze Age , which was expanded in the Iron Age .
The Day's Lock on the Thames can be seen from Round Hill.
Paul Nash painted the hill, which is now popular as a lookout point, several times.
