The property at Wittensteinstrasse 320 was a former gas station building in the Wuppertal district of Barmen .

architecture

The gas station corresponds architecturally the "normal base-Type", with a pump roofing with the mushroom-shaped conducting under the canopy tour support. This includes a glazed box office and gas station maintenance room and a row of garages with ten parking spaces that adjoins to the west. Further to the east is a separate car maintenance hall with two car maintenance units.

history

The filling station was built in 1954/55 according to plans by Raab Karcher GmbH from Düsseldorf for the client Ludwig Wolferts on Wittensteinstrasse and is located south of the Wuppertal Opera House and west of the Wuppertal-Barmen train station .

On May 28, 1999, the former petrol station was recognized as an architectural monument as an entire building complex consisting of a filling pump roof, cash register and service room, garage and car maintenance hall and entered in the list of monuments of the city of Wuppertal.

In the 2000s, the site was used by a car rental company to house their vehicles.

Due to the poor condition of the building, an application was submitted to the Lower Monument Authority in 2006 for resignation. This application was complied with, a refurbishment was not reasonable for the user and the owner.

As part of the redesign of the Barmer Bahnhof, new parking spaces will be created on the site.
