Vyacheslav Ivanovich Trubnikow ( Russian Вячеслав Иванович Трубников ; born April 25, 1944 in Irkutsk ) is a Russian journalist, political scientist and diplomat. 1996-2000 he was director of the Russian civilian foreign intelligence service (SWR). 2000-2004 - First Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation

Life

Vyacheslav Trubmikow was born in Irkutsk in 1944 into a working class family. After the end of World War II, his family moved to Moscow, where Trubnikov graduated from Moscow's Lomonosov University in 1961 with an excellent school leaving certificate. In 1967 he graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations .

From 1967-1992 Trubnikov worked for the State Security Committee of the USSR, including on posts in India and Bangladesh .

From 1992 to 1996 Trubnikov was the first deputy director of the Russian foreign intelligence service SWR, from 1996-2000 - director of SWR. In this capacity he was also a member of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

From June 2000 to July 2004 Trubnikov was the first deputy foreign minister of the Russian Federation, then until October 2009 he was the extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Russia to India.

Since October 2009 Trubnikow has been working as a consultant at the Institute for World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences . He is a member of the Expert Council of the Center for Political Research of Russia and has a seat on the governing body of the European Leadership Network .
