Vladimir Kolev

Vladimir Kolew ( Bulgarian Владимир Колев ; born April 18, 1953 ) is a former Bulgarian boxer .

Career

In the junior division (U19) Kolew won the 1970 lightweight (-60 kg) championships of the Eastern Bloc, the so-called friendship tournament in Vidin .

1972 Kolew took part in welterweight (-67 kg) at the Olympic Games in Munich , but was eliminated in the preliminary round against David Jackson, Uganda (4: 1). Later that year he won the Eastern Bloc police championships in light welterweight (-63.5 kg).

At the Balkan Championships in 1973 Kolew won the gold medal and shortly thereafter at the European Championships the bronze medal in the welterweight division. In 1975 Kolew was again Balkan light welterweight champion, but retired from the European championships in the same year in the first fight against the 1971 European champion Ulrich Beyer , GDR (TKO 3rd).

In 1976 Kolew started for the second time at the Olympic Games and reached the semifinals after victories over Tai Shik Park, South Korea (5: 0), Ernst Müller (5: 0), and Calistrat Cutov, Romania (5: 0) against Andres Aldama , Cuba (KO 1st), lost and won the Olympic bronze medal.

After this greatest success of his career, Kolew won the Eastern Bloc Police Championships twice (1978 and 1979) before retiring.
