Vladimir Belousov ( Russian Владимир Владимирович Белоусов * October 17 . Jul / the thirtieth October  1907 greg. In Moscow ; † 25. December 1990 ) was a Soviet geologist . He mainly worked in the fields of geotectonics and geodynamics . He was best known as a consistent representative of fixism in the geosciences and opponent of plate tectonics .

Belousov's first publications date from the 1930s. In 1943 he became a professor at the Moscow University of Geological Exploration, a year later head of the Department of Geodynamics of the Institute of Geophysics of the Soviet Academy of Sciences . In 1953, Vladimir Belousov was appointed professor at Moscow's Lomonosov University and a corresponding member of the Soviet Academy of Sciences.

In the 1960s he undertook expeditions into the East African Rift Valley to support his tectonic theory .

Belousov influenced a whole generation of Soviet geoscientists through his scientific work and teaching as well as his publications.

He was an external member of the Geological Society of London .
