history

Today's Mitte district in Bremerhaven, founded in 1827, grew steadily. In 1861 6500 citizens lived here. An der Karlstadt is the name of a small hotel and the street. They are reminiscent of Carlsburg founded by the Swedes in 1672 , a small fortress town at the mouth of the Geeste , named after King Carl XI. of Sweden . The fortress was demolished in 1683. The place was still referred to as Karlstadt .

The two- and three-storey, plastered four residential buildings were built around 1860 in the era of historicism in the style of classicism . You are on the edge of the Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences, which has been expanded here since 1975 . The famous Deichstrasse town houses from 1983/86 based on plans by Peter Weber are oriented towards the Geeste and are directly adjacent to the houses.
