Wojciech Nowak (doctor)

Wojciech Nowak (born September 21, 1949 in Cracow ) is a Polish surgeon and since 2012 rector of the Jagiellonian University in Cracow.

Life

Wojciech Nowak studied medicine at the Collegium Medicum Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego of the Jagiellonian University from 1968 to 1974 . In 1977 he obtained the first degree in general surgery , the second in 1984. In the meantime, on October 30, 1981, Wojciech Nowak received his doctorate. med., on November 15, 1996 he qualified as Dr. habil. From 2002 to 2006 he was a specialist in clinical transplantation in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship . From 2003 to 2008 he was the deputy chief physician for general surgery and gastroenterology at the Krakow University Hospital. From 2009 he was head of the 3rd chair and the clinic for general surgery at the same clinic. On April 20, 2012, he was elected Rector of Jagiellonian University for a period of four years. On April 7, 2016, he was confirmed in this office for the second term 2012-2020. In addition, he has been head of the Rectors' Conference of the Polish universities since 2016.

Teaching activities

From 2004 to 2009 Nowak was associate professor at the 1st chair for general surgery. In addition, he was head of the chair for anatomy from 2004 to 2008 and dean of the medical faculty from 2005 to 2008. He then was Vice-Rector of the Jagiellonian University for the Collegium Medicum until 2012. On May 1, 2009, he was appointed full professor at the Collegium Medicum. In November 2010 he became head of the European Society of Surgery for one year .
