The Veluwerand seas are a group of inland lakes that separate the two Dutch provinces of Gelderland and Flevoland . They were created when polders were created in the former Zuiderzee after the construction of the Zuiderzee Works . They are named after the Veluwe landscape , a forest area in Gelderland that stretches along the Veluwerand seas.

The inland lakes Drontermeer , Veluwemeer , Wolderwijd and Nuldernauw belong to the Veluwerand seas (from northeast to southwest) . They are separated from each other by locks .

Depending on the source, Nijkerkernauw is also one of the Veluwerand seas, according to other sources it is part of the Eemmeer , which adjoins the Veuwerand seas in the southwest and is connected to the Markermeer via the Gooimeer . In the north, the Veluwerand seas are connected to the Ketelmeer and above that to the IJsselmeer .
