Wolf-Dieter Ernst

Wolf-Dieter Ernst (* 1968 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German theater scholar and university lecturer in Bayreuth .

Career and work

After graduating from high school in Detmold , he studied theater, film and television studies in Bochum and applied theater studies in Gießen . He received his doctorate from the University of Basel in 2001 with a thesis on the performance of the interface. Theater under media conditions (plus scholarship from the DFG graduate college “Theater as a paradigm of modernity”, University of Mainz ). From 2001 to 2004 he was the coordinator of the SNSF research project “Bild-Figur-Zahl” at the University of Basel. From 2004 to 2006 research assistant at the University of Hildesheim . From 2006 to 2010 academic councilor at the LMU Munich . In 2009 he completed his habilitation on the “Discourse and Institutional History of Acting Education 1870–1930”. The work was funded by the German Research Foundation. Since 2010 he has been professor of theater studies at the University of Bayreuth and coordinates a. a. the bachelor's degree in theater and media.
