Wolf-Olaf Muszynski (born February 1, 1947 in Berlin ; † between February 6 and April 1, 1963 there ) was killed on the Berlin Wall .

Life

The 16-year-old Wolf-Olaf Muszynski lived in Berlin-Friedrichshain. Since February 6, 1963, he has been missing from his parents and the authorities. During the search, the People's Police turned to the authorities in the western part of the city in mid-March to ask whether the boy was registered there. Such a request was unusual because of the poor relations that had existed between authorities in the divided city since the Wall was built. In West Berlin, however, there were no records of the boy's successful escape or other information about his whereabouts. Wolf-Olaf Muszynski's grandmother, who lives in West Berlin, stated that she knew about the grandson's plans to flee.

The body of Wolf-Olaf Muszynski was found by residents on April 1, 1963 on the West Berlin bank of the Spree near the Oberbaum Bridge . He was wearing a wet suit. After the body was recovered, the autopsy did not reveal any external injuries. Drowning was found to be the cause of death. The coroners assumed the body would remain in the water for a long time, but could not give an exact date. Since there was no evidence of a violent crime, the investigation was closed. He was identified by means of identification documents he was carrying.

After the fall of the wall, the investigation into his death was resumed, but then stopped without any new information. It was assumed that there was an unnoticed escape attempt in which the boy drowned. A third party fault could not be determined. A cross of the White Crosses memorial on the Reichstag building facing the Spree is a reminder of Wolf-Olaf Muszynski.
