Wolf Schönmehl

Wolf Schönmehl (born in Schömberg , Northern Black Forest) is a German cook . He became internationally known as the restaurateur at Heidelberg Castle .

Professional background

He completed his training as a cook and baker in the 1980s. He initially worked at the Montreux Palace Hotel (Switzerland). He then worked for four years as head chef in Alfons Schuhbeck's Kurhausstüberl restaurant in Waging am See; During this time, Schuhbeck received 19 Gault Millau points and was named “Chef of the Year” in 1989. Later, Schönmehl cooked aubergine in Eckart Witzigmann's Munich restaurant , and in the Deidesheimer Hof with the chef Manfred Schwarz . After studying at the hotel management school in Heidelberg , he became a qualified restaurateur andKitchen master .

In 1992, Wolf Schönmehl and Andrea Spitznagel took over the restoration in Heidelberg Castle . They managed it until the end of 2007. In collaboration with the graphic artist Dieter Portugall, who made a calligraphic graphic of the Heidelberg old town backdrop in a special format, he developed an “all-round label” for his castle wine. D. Portugall also illustrated a favorite dish in Schönmehl's castle kitchen: the duck from Heidelberg.

From 2010 to 2014, Wolf Schönmehl and Andrea Spitznagel took over the restoration in the historic Schützenhaus Oftersheim , adjacent to Schwetzingen Castle .

Awards

1996–2003: good ratings in gourmet guides, etc. a. was Schönmehl's castle wine bar from the restaurant guide Gault Millau Germany with 14.5 points awarded.
