The Wolfbusch Church

The Wolfbuschkirche in Stuttgart-Weilimdorf with the address Im Wolfbusch 2 is a Protestant church designed by Hans Seytter .

history

The Wolfbuschsiedlung was built and moved into from the early 1930s. At that time the approximately 1,500 residents were mostly members of the Protestant regional church and were to have their own church in their residential area. A building site was bought from the city of Stuttgart at the entrance to the Wolfbuschsiedlung near Solitudestrasse . The foundation stone for the church was laid on June 11, 1937, and the inauguration took place on March 20, 1938 by Regional Bishop Wurm . The kindergarten was opened on July 1, 1938 and has been in the Wolfbusch Church ever since.

The church, which is around 24 meters long and twelve meters wide and has a lot of wood in the interior, offers around 200 seats in the nave and a further 40 seats on the gallery. It has a rather slender tower that can only accommodate two bells. The first set of bells - a large prayer bell and a small baptismal bell - were installed for the inauguration of the Wolfbusch Church despite financial difficulties. It had to be delivered in March 1942 and was melted down. In 1949 a new bell, weighing 460 kg, was installed. It bears the name Fallen Bell and the inscription "Let your dead live". Another bell followed in May 1954. It weighs 280 kg, is tuned to c and has the inscription “I am the resurrection and the life”.

The church was badly damaged in the nights of bombing in 1944 and 1945. It was re-opened after reconstruction on October 26, 1947.

The organ was also affected by the destruction; it could not be replaced in the post-war period for cost reasons and was kept in operation again and again through repairs until 1972. In 1973, after this was finally no longer possible, a small organ was set up as a provisional arrangement, and in 1976 the Weigle company from Echterdingen installed a new organ with 16 registers and 960 pipes, which was inaugurated on October 17, 1976 in a festive service.

On the night of July 29, 1944, the original choir window was also destroyed by an air raid. At first it was only replaced by simple glazing. In 1953 another colorful choir window was commissioned. It was designed by Wolf-Dieter Kohler and made by the Valentin Saile art glazing company in Stuttgart. The window is composed of eight rectangular fields, each 80 centimeters high and 60 centimeters wide. The subject of the pictures is the passion story of Jesus according to the Gospel of John . From bottom to top, the pictures show the entry into Jerusalem , the Lord's Supper with the washing of the feet, the flagellation, Jesus before Pontius Pilate , Jesus on the way to Golgotha , the crucifixion, the empty tomb with Mary and angels and the risen Christ with the disciples .
