Wolfdietrich Eichler

Wolfdietrich Eichler (born December 22, 1912 in Ravensburg ; † February 7, 1994 in Berlin ) was a German zoologist and parasitologist .

Life

Eichler studied zoology in Munich and Göttingen between 1931 and 1936, and obtained his doctorate in 1938. rer. nat. with a thesis on the Dahlem palm house bug . Between 1938 and 1945 he was an assistant at the University of Berlin , between 1940 and 1945 he also took part in the Second World War, where he was employed as an entomologist in the fight against malaria in Southeastern Europe. In 1945 he qualified as a professor for parasitology at the University of Berlin, with a thesis on mallophages .

Between 1949 and 1954 he was director of the Parasitological Institute at the University of Leipzig , but was suspended there in 1954 by the rector. From 1955 he was then head of department at the Institute for Rabies Control in Kleinmachnow near Berlin. Between 1969 and 1978 he was a full professor of parasitology at the Humboldt University in Berlin and at the same time an employee of the Natural History Museum at the HU Berlin .
