Wolfen Chapel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The listed Wolfen Chapel (dialect Wolf'n Chapel ) is located in the Upper Palatinate town of Kaltenbrunn , which today belongs to the Weiherhammer community .

The chapel was originally built by the Speckner family and stood by the Schaumbachmühle until 1907. This property was located within the Grafenwöhr military training area and therefore had to be demolished by the Wolf'n host Michael Krauss , Margareta Speckner's husband, in the course of setting up the military training area. On his meadow on the road to Dürnast he had the chapel rebuilt.

At the beginning of the 1980s a Madonna figure was stolen. In 1983 the altar of the chapel was restored by a Parsberg company on behalf of the current owner, Michael Krauss ; the rest of the interior and exterior renovation was done by volunteers.

The chapel is now a small gable roof building over a rectangular floor plan. It has a ridge turret with sound hatches and an attached cross, which Pope Benedict XVI. Was blessed at a private audience in 2013. The small tower was made by students of the carpenter BGJ class of the European vocational school in Weiden. The entrance portal has a round arch. A wrought iron grille divides the sacred space into two parts. A new linden tree was planted in 2014 and a bench was set up by the chapel. The area around the chapel was paved with granite paving. It is always the destination of a procession for the feast of St. John Nepomuk from the Catholic parish church of St. Martin in Kaltenbrunn to Dürnast. The procession is held by the local Nepomuk brotherhood.
