history

Kaltenbrunn with old and new Martinskirche

Kaltenbrunn is mentioned for the first time in a certificate of freedom from Duke Rudolf of Saxony in 1344 and at that time already had market rights. In her dissertation, Erika Beck assumes that under Charles IV, either 1337 or 1341, the town was granted market rights and that a document from King Wenzel mentions the “markt zum kaltenprun”. This is probably also the reason that the municipality assumed the year 1337 when the old town hall was built, because the coat of arms on the old town hall of the market town still read "ad 1337". Such a reference is missing from the coat of arms on the new town hall. Since the 15th century, the market had been the seat of one of the seven courts of the Parkstein-Weiden community office , in which the Parkstein district judge ruled together with twelve jury in cases of high and low jurisdiction . In 1524 the Reformation was introduced in the place . From 1663, both denominations then used the then only church, the Martinskirche, which was renovated after a fire in 1756. The Simultaneum did not expire until 1932. From 1714 the place belonged completely to the Duchy of Palatinate-Sulzbach , in 1777 the place came to Spa Bavaria . The political municipality of Kaltenbrunn was established in Bavaria in 1818 by the municipal edict. The establishment of the Grafenwöhr military training area and, in particular, its expansion in 1938/39 meant a major turning point in the development of the town. On January 1, 1972, the Kaltenbrunn market was incorporated into Weiherhammer.
