Wolfgang Bargmann (politician)

Wolfgang Bargmann (born April 10, 1926 in Soltau ; † February 13, 2020 in Soltau ) was a German local politician ( SPD ). From 1991 to 1996 he was mayor of the Lower Saxony city ​​of Soltau.

Life

Bargmann was born in Soltau in 1926 . In 1947 he joined the SPD at the general assembly of the re-established local association.

Bargmann was working as a surveyor in the land registry when he became a member of the Soltau City Council in 1971 as the direct successor of his father. Shortly after taking office, he became chairman of the building committee and remained so until 1986. During his 15-year term in office, the planning of the new Soltau cityscape fell, which he thus significantly influenced. He also helped to decide on the construction of the Soltau thermal baths . In 1991 Bargmann was elected honorary mayor of the city of Soltau for five years. In 1996 he retired from the Soltau Council after 25 years.

In addition to politics, Bargmann was also an honorary chairman of the Freudenthal Society . He also developed a cycling map for the area and wrote a three-volume city chronicle. Bargmann was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his commitment.
