history

Wellness and fitness area of the thermal bath

The construction of the Böhmewald baths began in 1950. The open-air swimming pool, located directly on the Böhme , was opened in 1954. In the years 1960, 1964, 1968 and 1971 in Soltau who found German Championships in water polo instead. In 1973 an indoor swimming pool was built in the immediate vicinity. The thermal bath with brine bath and sauna was inaugurated in 1990.

On January 1, 2005, the GMF Society for Development and Management of Leisure Systems mbH & Co. KG from Neuried took over the management of the Soltau municipal utility . The Soltau-Therme has been a member of the European Waterpark Association since 2009 .

Between July 2012 and June 2014 the indoor pool was converted into an all-weather pool with a retractable roof; from mid-May 2013 it was temporarily closed due to the conversion. The outdoor pool was finally closed in September 2013 due to the falling number of visitors from just under 20,000 visitors annually. In addition to a large lawn for sunbathing, there was a 50 m swimming pool, a non-swimmer pool (with a slide), a baby pool and a beach volleyball field . The total water area was 1,692 m². The sunbathing lawn is to continue to be used, and the construction of an ice rink was considered. On June 21, 2014 the reopening of the all-weather pool, the swimming pool with a retractable convertible roof, took place.

In August 2018 extensive tile damage occurred in the indoor pool, which is why it was closed immediately. Mainly because the question of financing initially remained unanswered, the repair work dragged on until the end of March 2020. Before it could be reopened, the entire thermal bath in Lower Saxony was closed in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Lower Saxony , following the decree of the Lower Saxony state government of March 16, 2020.
