Wolfgang Bergmann (Manager)

Wolfgang Bergmann was born in St. Pölten , Lower Austria, in 1963 . He is currently the commercial director of the state-owned Austrian gallery Belvedere .

He is the son of the journalist and ÖVP politician Kurt Bergmann , who died in 2016 and who initiated the aid campaigns “ Licht ins Dunkel ” and “ Neighbor in Need ”, which are known throughout Austria .

Wolfgang Bergmann studied theology at the University of Vienna and subsequently worked in Caritas public relations . He was perceived by the media as a Caritas spokesman. In this context, in 1998 he was the founding manager of the private Austrian radio station Radio Stephansdom , which is owned by the Archdiocese of Vienna .

In 1999, Bergmann switched to the Viennese daily newspaper “ Der Standard ”; there he was appointed managing director in 2001. Since 2008 he has been a member of the board of Standard-Medien AG.

In October 2016, Chancellery Minister Thomas Drozda announced that Bergmann would take over the commercial management of the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere , a federal museum , from January 2017 . At the same time, Stella Rollig was designated as scientific and artistic director. Both took office on January 16, 2017. Standard editor Oskar Bronner regretted Bergmann's departure from the publisher on the newspaper's website.
