Wolfgang Blümel (epigraphist)

Wolfgang Blümel (born January 9, 1945 in Nossen ) is a German classical philologist and epigraphist .

Wolfgang Blümel studied classical philology, papyrology and history at the University of Cologne . There he was in 1972 with the dissertation research on phonetic system and morphology of pre-classical Latin doctorate . In 1976 he completed his habilitation and in 1980 he was appointed adjunct professor. In 2011 he retired.

Blümel is particularly concerned with the history of the Greek and Latin languages. He is a specialist in Greek dialectology and the epigraphy of Asia Minor . As part of the series of inscriptions from Greek cities from Asia Minor , he published the inscriptions from Iasos , Mylasa , the Rhodian Peraia , from Knidos and, with Reinhold Merkelbach, those from Priene .
