Wolfgang Bock (cultural scientist)

Wolfgang Fritz Bock (born 1957 in Lüneburg ) is a German cultural scientist .

Life

Bock attended the Johanneum Lüneburg and after graduating from high school, studied natural sciences, education, psychology, philosophy and literature at the University of Bremen . He was a research assistant at the Institute for Social Policy and the Institute for Cultural Research and Education. In 1993 he received his doctorate on astrology and enlightenment and in 1996 he received his habilitation in cultural studies with Walter Benjamin with The Rescue of the Night: Stars, Melancholy and Messianism .

From 2001 to 2007 he was a university lecturer for the theory and history of visual communication at the design faculty at the Bauhaus University Weimar . In 2007, he took on a DAAD - visiting professor at the State University of Rio de Janeiro , Brazil, since 2011, he has been a professor of German literature. In summer 2017 he was visiting professor at the Muthesius Art Academy in Kiel. In February 2019 he was a visiting professor at the Law Faculty of the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Wolfgang Bock was among other things co-editor of the journal for critical theory from 2003 to 2013 . He researches and publishes on aesthetics, postmodernism, educational theory and new media.
