Wolfgang Eßer

Wolfgang Eßer (born September 10, 1954 in Mönchengladbach ) is chairman of the board of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Dentists (KZBV). As the central association of the seventeen statutory dentists' associations in sixteen federal states, the KZBV represents the interests of around 61,000 contract dentists, one of the largest specialist groups in terms of numbers. The institution is an organ of self-administration in the legal form of a corporation under public law .

Life

After studying dentistry (1973–1978) at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen , completing his doctorate and assistantship , Eßer founded his own practice in Mönchengladbach in 1982, which he ran until 2012. In 2001 he initially took over the office of head of the Krefeld administrative department of the North Rhine Association of Statutory Health Insurance Dentists (KZVNR) and was elected its deputy chairman in the same year. A year later, Eßer was appointed to the board of the KZBV. When the legislature introduced the full-time position of the board members of the statutory health insurance and statutory health insurance associations in 2005, Eßer was elected deputy chairman of the executive board of the KZBV. In 2013, after nine years in office, he was elected Chairman of the Board of Management. Eßer is also a member of the advisory board of the Deutsche Apotheker- und Ärztebank and was a member of the supervisory board until 2011. He is now represented on the Bank's Senate of Honor and has also been an honorary member since April 2012. In 2017 he was unanimously re-elected as Chairman of the Board of Management for the 2017 to 2022 term.

Since 2005, Eßer has been a voting member of the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA), the highest decision-making body for joint self-government. Until the end of 2013 he was a member of the board of trustees of the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) before he was elected chairman of the IQWiG Board of Trustees. Since 2015, Eßer has been a member of the board of the Institute for Quality Assurance and Transparency in Health Care (IQTIG) and of the Federal Association of Liberal Professions (BFB) . He is also a member of the Presidium of the Society for Insurance Science and Design (GVG).

Wolfgang Eßer is married and has four children.

According to the rules of procedure of the KZBV, Wolfgang Eßer, in his role as chairman of the board, is responsible for the areas of politics , legislation , the Federal Joint Committee (plenary), guidelines, research and international work.

In 2013/2014 he played a key role in the development of the new dental care concept for people in need of care and people with disabilities , which has been incorporated into the Nursing Reorientation Act .

Eßer advocates restoring the appreciation of the health professions in society and creating planning security for dentists in order to encourage their willingness to settle . Further goals are to guarantee comprehensive, local care, to strengthen freelance work and to strengthen self-administration .
