Wolfgang Georg Fiedler (born April 2, 1966 in Radolfzell am Bodensee ) is a German biologist and research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology , head of the ringing center at the Radolfzell ornithological station and animal welfare officer at the ornithological station .

Life

Wolfgang Fiedler studied biology in Tübingen and received his doctorate with the thesis The flying apparatus of the blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) at the Radolfzell ornithological station. Since 2000 he has been the scientific director of the ringing center at the Radolfzell ornithological station. Between January 2005 and January 2008 he was the local director of the Radolfzell ornithological station. Since January 2008 research group leader in the Wikelski working group of the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology .

Fiedler is co-editor of the three-volume ornithological standard work The Compendium of the Birds of Central Europe , published in 2005 , which appeared again in 2012 in a one-volume version. In 2011 he was one of the authors of the standard work Measuring birds .

Honorary positions

Wolfgang Fiedler had or still has numerous honorary positions. He has been an expert for bat protection in the district of Constance since 1986. From 1992 to 1998 he was chairman of the NABU local group Radolfzell-Singen Stockach . Since 1997 he has been managing director of the Friends of the Rybatschij / Rossitten Biological Station . Since 2001 member of the board of the European Union for bird ringing (EURING) and since 2011 “Chairman” of Euring. From 2001 to 2005 Secretary of the European Ornithologist's Union (EOU). 2002–2012 Secretary General, since 2019 President of the German Ornithological Society (DO-G). Since 2006 member of the committee of the International Ornithologists Conference (IOC).
