Wolfgang H. Koch (born February 6, 1951 in Siegen ) is a German dentist . He established scientifically-oriented, holistic dentistry nationally and internationally and inaugurated environmental dentistry with appropriate teaching content. He is a holistic dentist in the center for holistic dentistry and in the day clinic for metal-free implants in Herne as well as chairman of the German Parodontosis Aid eV

Oral health management is one of his scientific focuses.

Life

Koch grew up in East Frisia, where he attended elementary school and the Ulricianum grammar school in Aurich. From 1970 to 1975 he studied dentistry at the West German Dental Clinic at the University of Düsseldorf . After his license to practice medicine in 1975, he was a scientific assistant in the department for dental surgery and the department for prosthetics at the West German jaw clinic. In 1977 he received his doctorate at the Institute for Brain Research at the University of Düsseldorf with the topic "On the ontogenesis of the corpus striatum in Cercopithecus aethiops aethiops".

In 1978 he founded the center for holistic dentistry in Herne. In 1989 he became a founding member of the International Society for Holistic Dentistry and was a member of the board (quality assurance department) until 2011.

In 1984 Koch received permission to practice medicine without being certified as a naturopath . In 2001 he was appointed lecturer at the Medical Faculty of the University of Bochum , Chair of General Medicine.

Scientific contribution and main areas of work

The aim of Koch's scientific work is to further develop dentistry into oral medicine and to establish it as an important and fundamental discipline in the canon of medical disciplines. The motives for this development are manifold patient concerns that make these perspectives and actions necessary. They demand interdisciplinary, medical thinking, decision-making and action from dentistry. With his scientific contributions, Koch has succeeded in overcoming the separation between dentistry and other medicine.
