Wolfgang Kraus (born March 10, 1931 in Nuremberg ) is a German chemist , he was a professor at the universities of Hohenheim and Tübingen .

Live and act

After graduation in 1950 in Nördlingen studied Kraus chemistry at the University of Tübingen with chemist exam in 1958 and promotion to Dr. rer. nat. 1962. After his assistantship at the pharmaceutical and chemical institute, he received his habilitation in organic chemistry in 1967. As a private lecturer and later as an adjunct professor, he was also vice dean of the chemistry department at the University of Tübingen.

In 1974 Kraus accepted the call to the University of Hohenheim to the chair of chemistry which he held until his retirement in 1999. In 1980 he became an honorary member of the Corps Germania Hohenheim .

His most important work is the elucidation of the structure of azadirachtin in 1985. Azadirachtin is a biologically active ingredient of the Indian neem tree ( Azadirachta indica ).
