Wolfgang Laue

Wolfgang Laue (born February 24, 1929 in Leipzig , † 1996 ) was a German naval officer , most recently Rear Admiral of the People's Navy , the naval forces of the GDR .

Military career

The son of a tram driver was drafted into the Wehrmacht at the age of 16 in 1945 after attending school, which he completed with a secondary school leaving certificate . As a soldier he was taken prisoner by the English, from which he was released after a short time.

In 1945 Laue started an apprenticeship as an electrician in Leipzig, which he successfully completed in 1948. He then worked as a fitter until 1949. From 1949 to 1952 Laue studied at the engineering school in Berlin. In 1952 he joined the SED . On August 1 of the same year, Laue joined the armed organs of the GDR , where he was initially employed as an electrical engineering officer in the Maritime Police headquarters . Subsequently, Laue worked as an officer in the building supervision at the Volkswerft Stralsund and later the Peene shipyard in Wolgast .

From 1953 to 1954 Laue was an electrical engineering officer in the See People's Police and then until 1956 a shipbuilding engineer for mine protection . From 1956 to 1960 he studied at the Naval War Academy in Leningrad . From 1961 to 1963 Laue was head of the research and development subdivision at the Scientific and Technical Center in the command of the People's Navy and then until 1965 head of the shipbuilding technology subdivision in the same command. In 1965 he became Deputy Head of the Shipbuilding Procurement Administration and from 1972 Head of the Shipbuilding Administration in the Ministry of National Defense . Laue held this post until his retirement on August 31, 1989. He had previously been appointed Rear Admiral on October 7, 1982.
