Renato Bertolini

Renato Bertolini , called Vittorio Sarpi (born March 30, 1905 in Fivizzano ; † 1983 ) was an Italian communist , resistance fighter against National Socialism , Spain fighter , prisoner in Buchenwald concentration camp , member of the general council of the illegal military section of the IMO , secretary of the FIR and vice president of the International Buchenwald-Dora Committee and Commands .

Life

Bertolini joined the Italian Communist Party and followed the call to take part in the defense of the Spanish Republic . He fought as a captain in the 12th International Brigade "Garibaldi" against the Franco putschists . After his capture he was interned in France and deported together with 125 people on January 19, 1943 to the Buchenwald concentration camp . Here he took part in the prisoner resistance and became a member of the military section of Italy within the International Military Organization (IMO).

After the end of the Nazi regime, he returned to Italy and became involved in the work of commemorative politics to continue the legacy of the liberated Buchenwald prisoners. He became secretary of the FIR and worked as vice-president in the International Committee Buchenwald-Dora and Commands. In 1957 he wrote a report entitled The Italian Prisoners Resisting the SS .
