Wolfgang Lauerwald (born May 5, 1955 in Erfurt ) is a German doctor and politician of the Alternative for Germany (AfD).

Life

In 1961 Lauerwald moved with his parents from Erfurt to Gera . From 1962 to 1972 he attended the Polytechnic Oberschule Gera. From 1972 to 1975 he trained as a machining technician with a high school diploma at VEB Wema Union Gera.

After military service in the National People's Army , he studied from 1977 to 1983 medicine at the University of Jena , graduated with an academic degree graduate physicians from. From 1983 to 1995 Lauerwald was a ward and senior physician at the Gera District Hospital and Schleiz District Hospital. From 1995 to 2013 he was an internist and nephrologist in a group practice / dialysis in Gera. During this time he did his doctorate at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. He retired on January 1, 2016 .

Lauerwald is divorced and has four children.

In 2013 Lauerwald first became a sustaining member, then in 2016 a full member of the AfD. Since August 2016 he has been the spokesman for the AfD-Stadtverband Gera, and since November 2017 he has been a member of the Gera- Jena - Saale-Holzland district board . In May 2019 he was elected to the Gera City Council, where he is a member of the Education Committee. In the state elections in October 2019, he was elected as a direct candidate in the Gera II constituency as a member of the Thuringian state parliament.

In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic , Lauerwald took different positions on the state government's health policy at different times. On April 28, he said the preparation for a severe pandemic made sense and should have come earlier. On May 23, he called the lockdown unnecessary. He said the people in Thuringia were seriously harmed.
