Wolfgang Marggraf

Wolfgang Marggraf (born December 2, 1933 in Leipzig ) is a German musicologist .

Life

Wolfgang Marggraf studied musicology and art history at the universities of Jena and Leipzig from 1952 to 1957 and was awarded a doctorate in 1964. phil. PhD .

After working as a dramaturge at the Rudolstadt and Erfurt theaters, he began teaching music history in 1966 at the “Franz Liszt” University of Music in Weimar , where he was appointed professor of musicology in 1988 and the first free time from 1990 to 1993 elected rector officiated. After that he was director of the Institute for Musicology until 1998. During this time he made a contribution to the restructuring and reorganization of the university and the establishment of the joint institute for musicology of the "Franz Liszt" University of Music Weimar and the University of Jena .

In addition to other musicological publications, Wolfgang Marggraf wrote biographies on Joseph Haydn , Franz Schubert , Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini and examined the entire symphonic work of Joseph Haydn.

Today Wolfgang Marggraf lives in Lörrach-Brombach .
