Wolfgang Pree (born June 27, 1964 in Linz ) is an Austrian computer scientist and professor at the University of Salzburg .

Life

After studying computer science and his doctorate auspiciis sub praesidentis 1992 at the Johannes Kepler University Linz habilitation he there on software design ( design patterns , Eng. Design Patterns ). Pree was an assistant at the University of Zurich , visiting assistant professor at Washington University in St. Louis , and visiting scholar at Siemens AG in Munich. In 1997 Pree was appointed full professor at the University of Konstanz , and in 2002 he moved to the University of Salzburg . He was on sabbaticals at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California, San Diego .

His research area is software engineering , in particular software construction principles, and machine learning . His C. Doppler Laboratory Embedded Software Systems (2007-2014), in collaboration with AVL List GmbH, focused on real-time software in automobiles and automation systems. Chrona is developing the research results into products and has been in use in the next generation of electric vehicles from Daimler since 2019/20 .

From 2008 pioneering work was carried out in the field of autonomous rail travel on open routes: the Climate and Energy Fund supported the autoBAHN project, so that a pilot operation on the Stern & Hafferl route Vorchdorf-Gmunden could be implemented from 2008 to 2013.

In 2017, Wolfgang Pree initiated Go4IT (start of a computer science bachelor's degree in grammar school): AHS pupils can attend introductory computer science courses at the University of Salzburg from the 5th grade (9th grade).
