Wolfgang Ritte (born January 7, 1953 in Bocholt ) is a German pole vaulter .

Life

Wolfgang Ritte began pole vaulting as a child under the guidance of his grandfather and remained loyal to him through his age groups. During his long career on athletics facilities, he won 98 German and 47 international championship titles from youth to senior level (as of March 2020).

In 1971, as an 18-year-old German youth champion and youth record holder, Ritte was 4.86 m (hall: 4.90 m). In the national jersey he played eight youth competitions and in 1972 and 1973 two senior international competitions for men.

Ritte set 76 German records, 64 European records and 47 world records in the various age groups (from youth to senior citizens). In the pole vault alone, he improved the world record 46 times. He holds the world record for men in the age group M55 (55-59 years) with 4.60 m, in the age group M60 (60-64 years) with 4.32 m. as well as in the age group M65 (65-69 years) with 4.05 m. In the age group M50 (50–54 years) he holds the European record with 4.73 m. His best performance achieved in 1984 in the M30 pole vault (30-34 years) is 5.11 m.

Ritte also denied several decathlons . In 1971 he was third at the German Youth Championships with 7116 points. Until 2018 he held the world record set in Stendal in the M60 decathlon with 8123 points (100 m: 12.76 (−0.5), long: 5.52 (0.0), ball: 12.64, high: 1 , 55, 400 m: 62.27, hurdles: 15.33 (+1.5), discus: 38.74, pole high: 4.00, javelin: 35.98, 1500 m: 7: 06.64).

Ritte lives in Moers on the Lower Rhine as a retired ministerial official . He starts for SC Bayer 05 Uerdingen . Previous stations were Weseler TV and initially TuB Bocholt .

Ritte's wife, son and daughter, and son-in-law are also active athletes.

honors and awards

Ritte was voted German senior athlete of the year in 2007, 2014 and 2018. In 2008 a jury of experts named him World Senior Athlete of the Year (“World Masters of the Year”). The proclamation took place on November 23, 2008 in the presence of Prince Albert of Monaco in front of 700 invited guests at the World Athletics Gala in the Salle des Etoiles (Star Room) of the Monte Carlo Sporting Club. He received the trophy from the pole vaulters Jelena Gadschijewna Issinbajewa (Russia) and Sergej Bubka (Ukraine).

At the beginning of 2009, Ritte in Marathon (GRE) was also named the best senior athlete in Europe (European Best Master).

At the 2015 Sports Gala in his hometown Moers, Wolfgang Ritte was honored for his life's work by the mayor, Christoph Fleischhauer.

In 2015 and 2019 he was honored by the German Athletics Association as "Germany's senior athlete 2014 and 2018".

In 2019, Wolfgang Ritte received the title “World Best Master Of The Year: Category Jumps” from the WMA (World Masters Athletics) for 2018 and the “European” awards from the EMA (European Masters Athletics) for the two consecutive years 2018 and 2019 Best Master Of The Year: Category Jumps ".
